How many hours of sleep should I be getting?

by Chris ·

I am a 13 year old girl, and I do sports a couple nights a week. But, I do have sleeping problems, and I had been taking melatonin for a while, but I stopped because I'm not supposed to take it for more than 2 months in a row. I do have anxiety and depression which contributes to sleep trouble, but I have been getting like 4 to 6 hours of sleep during the week every night. How much sleep should a person my age be getting every night? I have been feeling exhausted lately.

Well, I really suggest you try to sleep 6 hours the minimum and 8 hours the max. Because 6 hours is just fine to keep you well and any more than 8 hours is really a waste of time. I usually sleep 5-6 hours a day, and if I'm really lucky then I get 7 hours sleep. No more than 7 hours though.

honestly, 4-6 hours won't help you in sports. since you are 13 you are growing, you need at least 8-10 hours of sleep per night…some tips to getting to bed, is getting into bed at least an hour-two hours early and try to sleep if that does not work place a warm cloth over your eyes to relax them. try not to have too many lights on…unless you need a nightlight. if it would help put on some calming music and after a while you should get into the habit of getting to be early and you could do less and less.

every person is different. some can sleep for just a few hours and be just as refreshed as someone who slept for twelve. The average nights rest should be around 7 hours, but if you have problems sleeping it could be because of something your eating such as soda, tea, chocolate, or sports drinks with high sugar and caffeine content. If you eat a meal close to bead time it can keep you awake so it is suggested that you not eat for at least 2 hours before bed. Try reading a book before you go to bed or purchase some hypnosis, relaxation, or ambient noise tapes, sometimes hearing a calm voice or sound can help one get to sleep.

You should be getting approximately eight hours of sleep each night. Some persons are affected by the eating of high energy foods in the evenings. Try drinking warm whole milk or something sweet before relining to bed. If you can get blackstrap molasses this is also good to help you sleep. It is good just relaxing and not worry about not sleeping. Listen to very low music.

Make sure you eat well during the days. Along with your meats and fish eat lots of nuts seeds, fresh raw fruits and fresh raw vegetables - all kinds and eating yams, potatoes, pumpkins etc sometimes is important. Sometimes your nutrition has a lot to do with the inability to sleep.

one Question is, you are only 13. How are you so sure that you have anxiety and depression?

For overcoming this sleep problems, you need to do strong cardio + anaerobic exercise in a gym under the supervision of an instructor. Then have hot shower and write journals. Keep thelight in the house low to dim for about 1 hour prior to sleep.
