I’m 16 & my doctor said that he doesn’t like to prescribe sleep aids and that I should look at natural ones.
and these are the two I found.
my naturopath told me that melatonin can be good for emergency use, like if you’re a crazy insomniac and really need to sleep, but that it’s not good to take frequently because it messes with your hormones. she also said that valerian is good, but only if you’re not anxiety prone, as this can amplify your anxiety. if you don’t have probems with anxiety, you can drink it as a tea before bed, but you might want to mix it with other herbs since it tastes like wet hay.
here are some other good herbs for help with sleeping:
you can make tea with any of these and they are sure to calm you down a bit
if that’s not enough, try counting down from 100 slowly, taking deep breaths for every number (i.e. breath in 100 breath out 99) while doing this imagine yourself in a beautiful place and focus on what you see, hear and smell there. when your mind tries to wander, imagine those thoughts as clouds, don’t fight them, just recognize their existence and let them float away.
having trouble sleeping could also be a sign that you’re not getting enough exercise. make sure you’re using your body each day and it will be a lot easier to fall asleep at night.
So I have trouble sleeping..was wondering if there is any good natural sleeping aid (not those meds pills)
If you have problem in onset and maintenance of sleep then try some strategies like learn to relax, relieve stress before bedtime, establish a routine with set sleeping and waking hours, avoid caffeine, nicotine and alcohol in the late afternoon or evening. These substances can delay as well as interrupt your sleep, also avoid afternoon nap if you have problem to fall asleep at night.
Some people use natural herbs such as valerian, chamomile, lavender, hops, and passion-flower. They found their good effect during sleeplessness. You can also try them and will hopefully good for this sleeping trouble.
I don’t want to take pills but I need something to help me sleep more than a few hours. Are there any natural remedies anyone can recommend? I’ve tried warm milk, hot chocolate etc. So far no good.
Thank you in advance if you can help.
if go to a natural/homeopathy store ask for Valerian root or Melatonin.
Both are natural sleep aids to be taken roughly 30 minutes before plan to sleep. As sparker said drink as a tea.
Kava is also meant to be good as a sleeping aid.
Another method is to hold your breath and then slowly exhale, this increases the amount of carbon dioxide in the body which is a natural anesthesia.
Then ok course the old things of counting sheep, which is supposed to help as focuses brain on one thing and allows other areas to go to sleep.
Other than that cut our caffeine, exercises about an hour before sleep.
Hope something helps
Long story short… I have something on my mind (ex wife) that I cant get out and it gets really intense when i try to go to sleep. I DO NOT like taking sleeping pills but on the really bad nights i've tried them. the first couple times it seemed to work but now they just make my muscles feel all tense and jittery so it's even worse! My brain is tired but my body wants to get up n run! Nyquil does the same thing to me by the way.
Is there something more natural like something from the GNC store that will help me???
I think the problem is the thinking of your ex- wife you have not said if you are still in love with her? If you are try this.
Think of some thing that she was particular about her self example if it was her hair imagine all her hair falling out and what she might look like bald, or her teeth think of her with no teeth and just a mouthful of gums, or her figure exaggerate the opposite.
The mind controls the body.
You learn to relax your mind, by thinkingof something else like concertrating on relaxing the body, start by relaxing the right foot and leg, it is so relaxed it's getting heavy. Then the left foot and leg, then say to yourself I'am breathing.easierly, regularly and without difficulty.
then carry on relaxing the rest your body when you have completed the relaxation tell your- self that warmth is traveling though your whole body as though you are in a warm bath you are very relaxed and can find that you are very sleepy and you will have a perfect nights sleep and feel refreshed when you wake up. good luck
In the 21st century we smugly dismiss herbal remedies for asthma as “old wives tales” but this is a foolish attitude. For 5,000 years of recorded history, and undoubtedly many centuries before, humans have been using plants and nature as cures for many diseases and ailments. “Modern” medicine has only existed for a mere instant of time and it’s arrogant to assume that thousands of years of herbal medicine is of no value to us whatsoever. Here are four herbal remedies that are far older than our current medical practices.
The Old Fashioned ‘Mustard Plaster’:
The famous mustard plaster is indeed used on the chest, but it doesn’t involve opening a jar of Grey Poupon and smearing it around. Instead, you must locate the leaves of the mustard plant which grow wild and can also be cultivated in your garden. Once you have the leaves and stems, mash them into a green pulp.
Next, coat your chest with a protective barrier like petroleum jelly or any oil that is solid at room temperature, in order to prevent any blistering. Cover your chest with the mustard pulp and keep it in place with some gauze or a bandage. Lie down for a couple of hours, or even overnight, and your chest should be much relieved.
John Wesley’s Fondness For Carrots:
Yes, carrots are a great asthma reliever. We commonly think of carrots as long, orange vegetables, but in truth they grow all over the world and there are carrots that are red, purple, pale gold, pure white and a canary yellow. The reverend John Wesley, (1703 - 1791), founder of the Methodist church, habitually ate boiled carrots and drank warm carrot broth to relieve his chronic asthma. Wesley claimed that carrots enabled him to keep a regular preaching schedule that would have been impossible without the aid of his beloved vegetable.
Fragrant Chamomile For Drinking And Breathing:
Chamomile refers to several different species of plant but the one westerners are most familiar with is the German chamomile. This especially fragrant plant is an annual, with lovely flowers, that is frequently used to induce sleep. But the fact that it provides great relief for allergies and asthma is less well known.
To make chamomile tea, boil a pint of water, remove it from the heat and add two teaspoons of dried flowers. Allow it to steep for 5-10 minutes. For asthma relief, drink 3-4 cups of warm tea each day. Children can safely drink 1-2 cups.
For even more asthma relief, fill a pan with approximately four inches of boiling water and sprinkle in a handful of chamomile. When the water has cooled so that it is still slightly steaming, but not boiling hot, place your face over the pan and over your head with a heavy towel so that it acts as a tent. Breathe in these wonderfully aromatic fumes until the water cools. You can safely repeat this treatment as often as you like.
Garlic Salve Halts Chest Congestion:
Garlic is truly a wonderful plant. It kills infection, acts as a blood thinner, seasons food - and acts as a wonderful chest congestant. To make a salve to relieve an asthmatically-constricted chest, peel and mince 6-8 garlic cloves and drop them into a jar that can withstand high temperatures, such as a canning jar.
Next, cover the garlic with melted Crisco or other shortening that will harden at room temperature. If desired, you can also add a small amount of eucalyptus oil to make the mixture more fragrant.
Put the oil and garlic into boiling water and let it sit, without a top, for about three hours. At the end of this time, stir it and pour it into smaller jars for storage. When needed, simply rub into your chest until the oil is absorbed, cover for a time with a towel, and wait for the relief that is soon to come.
The beautiful thing about these natural four remedies is that they cannot possibly harm you in any way. Can you say the same thing about any asthma drugs you are currently ingesting?

Looking for a much needed hot flashes remedy? Then you are obviously experiencing “the change.” Hot flashes are the first sign of approaching menopause and the one symptom that most women would like to conquer. Before you run to your doctor and begin hormone therapy, try employing a few simple tips that can work as your hot flashes remedy.
One little known hot flashes remedy is apple cider vinegar. Taking a little of this vinegar has given many women relief from migraines, sinus headaches and even allergy symptoms. More importantly, women report fewer hot flashes! If apple cider vinegar works as your hot flashes remedy it may even increase your energy, alleviate dry skin and aid in weight loss. For no known side effects, I say bottoms up!
Another more prevalently known hot flashes remedy is exercise. Women who reported hot flashes so severe that they plagued them day and night sing the praises of exercise as the ultimate hot flash cure. The amount of exercise required to diminish your symptoms and act as your hot flashes remedy will vary. Reportedly, moderate exercise for 1-2 hours a day, 4-6 times a week has squelched hot flashes completely. On a side note, when the regular exercise stopped, the hot flashes immediately came roaring back. Talk about an incentive to keep exercising!
An increasingly popular hot flashes remedy is to drink soy milk or take soy products. In some women a glass of soy milk has almost a miracle effect. One woman reported that a glass of daily soy milk kept her hot flash free during the day, but she was continuing to experience night sweats. After warming up a good old cup of soy and enjoying it before bed, her night sweats disappeared and she finally got that elusive good night’s sleep. As long as you’re not allergic to soy, there’s a great possibility it may be your long sought after hot flashes remedy.
Soy not doing it for you? How about trying a little Tumeric? Women in India use this powder to help ease their menopause symptoms. This spice is said to not only ease hot flashes, but also soothe irritated skin. Taken in a small dose Tumeric has no known side effects, but they have the potential to help your fight in finding your hot flashes remedy.
A more common hot flashes remedy is cutting out the sugar in your diet. Cutting your sugar intake is known to help with many physical and emotional ailments, but also may decrease the frequency and intensity of your hot flashes.
If the above suggestions don’t help, never give up! There’s no need to live in misery for years and years to come. There are many other natural remedies that relieve hot flashes. It is simply a matter of systematically finding what your triggers are and eliminating them, then trying some of the many remedies that are readily available to you. Keep at it and you will eventually develop your own hot flashes remedy.
Arthritis is a health problem that not only humans have to deal with, but so do our pets. In fact, one-fifth of dogs in the US, over the age of seven, suffer with painful DJD (degenerative joint disease) as veterinarians like to say. It is also one of the top recurring pains in dogs that they treat. Arthritis in dogs can affect their back, elbows, shoulders, hip and neck.
If you are not sure if your dog has arthritis, here are a few of the more obvious signs:
Does he tend to favor once side over another (His joints could be too painful on one side, so he will tend to put more pressure on the other to avoid pain. He may even show discomfort while standing or even sitting on a particular side)
Unusual weight gain (Because of the painful joints, he may tend to be more lethargic or even sleep more not getting the exercise a healthy dog would generally get)
Not as active (If you have noticed he is not as playful or unusually hesitant in his movements. This is due to stiff joints)
If you have noticed your dog with any one of the above symptoms for more than a week, do not hesitate to take him to a veterinarian. This way he can be properly diagnosed and treated.
There are home remedies that you might even want to try to ease his pain.
Your dog’s diet is one area that you might want to look into. Dry dog food is made up mostly of grains which cause inflammation of the joints. A better choice would be to try preparing his meals with raw or cooked meat as well as cooked vegetables. They are not only healthier for him but should help alleviate some of the swelling in his joints. (Stay away from anything spicy such as peppers and even onions). Omega 3 fatty acids can be used as a supplement in order to decrease the amount of inflammation in the joints. Try giving him fish capsules. Flax seed is also a great anti-inflammatory.
Even thought your dog may be in pain, it is still important that he gets a short amount of exercise. If he is not skittish to water, try having him swim. For smaller dogs, a kiddy pool would work great. This way, there is no pressure on the joints, yet he is still being mobile. Also take him for short 15 minute walks. Do not expect too much from him such as running after a ball or jumping.
Warm and Comfortable rest area
Provide a soft, comfortable area for your dog to rest. In the winter time, when the cool air can stiffen joints, try placing an old sleeping bag or pillow on the floor to help keep his joints warm. If your dog is an outside dog, you may want to bring him into the garage at night, to avoid the temperature drops.
These are just a few ways that we can help make our pets lives more comfortable. Although, visiting a veterinarian should also be considered. Your veterinarian will probably take an x-ray to see the damage to the joints. With the rising amount of animals that are developing arthritis, there are medications that have been developed to alleviate and even help repair the joints.
A popular medication for dogs in alleviating pain is glucosamine. It is a sugar that is generated from shell fish that motivates joint repair and lessens joint pain. Glucosamine is a natural ingredient that is found in animals, but with age, the body has a decrease in production of this essential element. Glucosamine works by stimulating your body to produce Synovial fluid. Synovial fluid is needed for healthy joints. It lubricates the cartilage to aid in mobility.
Never take matters into your own hands by giving your dog human medications. They can be toxic to his body, especially if given in the wrong dosage form.
Animal care has come a long way in meeting the needs of our canines. Taking your dog to regular check ups at a veterinarian is one way to keep up with your dog’s health needs. If we want our animals to have happy and healthy lives, taking care of their bodies is important. They cannot do it without us.

No doubt that we have all been affected at some time in our lives by a snorer in some form or fashion. But what actually causes this irritation? Noisy breathing through the nose and mouth while sleeping is what causes snoring. It is the result of a blocked air passage, which inhibits what would otherwise be easy and normal breathing.
The snore sounds that we associate with this condition are the result of the vibration or flapping of the tissues lining the air passages. And since this condition while someone is sleeping, most snorers have no clue that they snore even though their sleep is affected by it as well.
Snoring occurs when air does not flow smoothly through the air passages, or as mentioned earlier, when the soft tissues or muscles in air passages vibrate. Age can become a prevalent factor as it is found that the older a person gets, the weaker their throat muscles become. This weakening of the throat muscles will cause surrounding tissues to sag making them vulnerable to vibration.
In some cases, nasal blockages caused by allergies or a deviated septum when the partition between the noses is crooked has been known to restrict airflow through the nose. This will force more breathing through the mouth where the flabby tissues are located.
Many snoring solutions are available and being practiced by thousands of people. It is a good idea to try several of these and simply pick one that best suits you. Many snore solutions require the changing of a personal lifestyle. This change in lifestyle means a change in eating habits and doing some exercise to keep fit and lose that excess weight.
Some other tips include avoiding heavy foods right before bedtime is highly recommended.
Changing your sleeping posture by sleeping on your sides rather than on your back is another helpful idea in alleviating snoring. There are several products available in the marketplace that can aid in sleeping properly.
Probably the most dreaded solutions to snoring is surgery. Palatopharyngoplasty is performed to enlarge the throat. This procedure increases the airflow in the throat and reduces the vibratory tissue in the throat.
Obviously, there are many potential solutions for snoring. It is just a matter of preference and effectiveness. The natural more simplistic ones should attempted first followed by those more costly and complex. The good news is that no one has to suffer the negative effects from snoring.
When you seek assistance from a doctor for your acid reflux problem, they generally do an examination, and in some cases further testing. When they determine that acid reflux is the cause of symptoms, the advice is often to make some changes to the way you eat and the way you sleep, and they may also give you a prescription. The most popular prescription is a proton pump inhibitor that slows down acid production while allowing your esophagus and other tissues to heal. However, not everyone wants to take a medication, and sometimes, they simply don’t work. When this happens, you might want to look into some acid reflux homeopathy remedies to ease your suffering.
Medications can work, but some worry about side effects, and others don’t want to take something that will only be a temporary fix before they are right back on the same medication all over again. That is quite understandable. The difference between western medicine and homeopathy is that medicine is given based on condition, and homeopathy is often given on the basis of the symptoms. The thought is that by healing each symptom, the entire problem can then be put under control.
You may be seeing your doctor for your acid reflux, and that is a great idea, even if you are feeling well. You should also consider homeopathy for your acid reflux as something that needs guidance as well. You can find a homeopathy doctor in many communities. They will go over your symptoms, as well as ask questions about your whole state of health. They can give you natural herbs and remedies, and they may also suggest other methods like acupuncture or massage therapy in some cases.
There are times when acid reflux is aggravated by slow digestion. This means speeding things up to the normal speed at which your digestive system works. You can do a few things to aid in digestion, and you may find they are all that you need. You may find increasing your intake of digestive enzymes, either through eating raw foods or taking a supplement or having ginger as a digestive stimulant helps. Think about eating smaller meals, and not eating within a few hours of bed time. That will help the supplements work better and will keep your stomach moving.
There are other problems that can be a result of leaking acid that acid reflux homeopathy may also address. This could be an ailment like a sore throat, leakage into and damage of the lungs, excess gas, indigestion, and painful bloating. Those are all treatable, and usually targeting the digestive system can eliminate them. A good homeopathic doctor knows what to do and how to do it, and will go by your current health and state of being as well as your past medical problems when deciding on your treatment.
Remember that acid reflux homeopathy is not just about supplements and herbs. It is also about balancing the harmony of your body, and ridding you of your symptoms. If you find you are healed, remember to continue to see both your medical and homeopathic doctors on occasion to check for any reoccurrence of the problem. You can feel really great when you get your acid reflux under control, but it can return if you don’t solve the root cause of the problem.
Sometimes you just get stuck for ideas. Your mind is a blank. It makes it even harder to come up with the goods if your present or future business rests on your ideas. A little help and inspiration for a new article, a new product, or a completely new business wouldn’t go amiss in these circumstances.
The purpose of the ideas in this series of articles is to get your brain thinking. The ideas may seem a bit crazy and unrealistic - almost too simple. But…. the intention is for these ideas to act as a trigger, making you say something like: “That idea’s ridiculous, but if I change it around a bit I could…” So, use one or more of these ideas as your starting point and brainstorm your way to a new opportunity.
1. Begin an enterprise which sells garden gates door to door. On your sales trips, take with you a smart folder which has a large photograph of each gate you are selling. Provide potential customers with a price which includes installation. Your target houses should be easy to spot!
2. Start a home based computer bureau. There are hundreds of business computer programs available such as wages, record files and accounts. Buy and use these programs to provide a computer service to local businesses.
3. Set up a business which promotes the making of lampshades. Lampshade making can be sold as either, an interesting new hobby, or a business opportunity. Produce a mail order catalogue of lampshade making equipment and supplies. Advertise your catalogue in craft magazines.
4. Begin a computerised dating service. Operate this service like a traditional dating service, but hold all your records on a computer and use the computer to aid your search for compatible partners. Have leaflets about your service printed and place them at shops in your area.
5. Be a sleep consultant. Large numbers of people have difficulty in sleeping at night. This is not usually a medical problem, but can be corrected by using a suitable method or attitude of mind. Provide people in your area with confidential advice about how to sleep soundly.
6. Start a venture which designs and manufactures portable theatrical footlights. Potential buyers of these footlights include: amateur theatre and dance groups, pop and rock groups, children’s entertainers, variety entertainers, nightclubs and mobile disc jockeys.
7. Create an enterprise which rents computers to private and business users. The computers you rent out might be new and second hand. Also rent out peripherals such as printers, stands and feeders. Use local media to inform people about your hire service.
8. Buy original computer games programs from home computer enthusiasts. Find these programs by advertising in computing magazines. Produce a compilation of the programs on a master tape. Have copies of this master tape duplicated on cassettes and sell from ads in home computing magazines.
9. Produce a series of low cost audio cassettes which help school pupils revise for public examinations. You might give these cassettes a brand name like ‘Personal Revision Cassettes’. Get these cassettes stocked at newsagents and bookshops.
10. Set up a firm which publishes a monthly computer cassette program for home computer enthusiasts who want to improve their program writing skills (e.g. C++, html or web design). Each cassette might give ideas, examples and tips about how to become a better computer programmer.
11. Start a firm which organises educational holidays and weekend breaks for computing enthusiasts who want to further their programming skills. The courses might be held at a bed & breakfast house out of season. Advertise your holidays and breaks in computing magazines.
12. Design and publish diaries for each star sign. The special feature of these diaries is that a star reading is given for each day of the coming year. Have these diaries mounted in a special display rack. Get astrological shops to accept one of your racks.
13. Use luminous paint (the kind used on watches and alarm clocks) to highlight features on natural ornaments such as starfish, coral, colourful rocks, pine cones, etc. Place these ornaments in a UV illuminated display case to illustrate the luminosity. Get these cases displayed at gift shops.
14. Start an enterprise which makes high quality, home-made paper. Sell the paper at a premium for use as: personal stationery, certificates, presentation scrolls, printing paper for manually operated printing presses etc.
15. Bring out a selection of lucky charms which are for hanging from the windscreens of cars, vans and lorries. The charms might be mini horseshoes, rabbits’ feet, wooden or plastic number sevens, four leaf clovers, etc. Package your charms and distribute to a wide range of retailers.
16. Begin a business which manufactures kits for making mosaics. Each kit has a pre-designed mosaic and people have to complete it like a jigsaw puzzle. Use ads in craft magazines to sell the kits by mail order.
17. Set up an enterprise which sells greenhouses door to door. Buy the greenhouses from manufacturers at trade prices. Produce sales literature and recruit sales people to sell the greenhouses for you.
18. Start a postal business which rents out war gaming model soldiers and other accessories. War gaming enthusiasts around the nation can use this service to play war games of any size from any period of history.
19. If you have a spare room, take in a lodger, or start a small scale bed and breakfast business. If you choose the latter, either place a sign outside your house which reads ‘Bed and Breakfast’, ‘Vacancies’, or advertise in the window of a main newsagent. Currently you can earn a useful tax-free sum from this method.
20. Make money from anatomical charts. Use the charts to: 1) make stylish framed prints; 2) make unusual designs for T-shirts; 3) decorate household products such as wastepaper bins and lampshades; 4) make decorative or educational posters; or 5) make a collection of educational slides.
21. Make decorations for wine bottles. Each decoration is slipped over the neck of a bottle. These decorations are either wood carved or metal engraved with the name of a restaurant or family. Or make floral decorations: the scent of the flowers complementing the bouquet of the wine.
22. Start a craft business which makes unusual table lamps. Each table lamp might feature a stand made of a conch shell or Victorian bottle. If you hit upon a design which is popular, and there are no problems with obtaining raw materials, this can become a full time business.
23. Take up the craft of jewellery making and as soon as you acquire a basic skill, start selling what you make. Begin by sending for a catalogue issued by a mail order jewellery making supplier.
24. Start a mail order firm which sells equipment and supplies to weavers and spinners. An important market for your products will be those taking up weaving and spinning for the first time. Place ads in craft magazines which are directed at this group.
25. Produce souvenir children’s height charts which feature postcard type views of local scenery. Or make souvenir suntan charts. These suntan charts have the complete range of skin shades. A holiday maker buys a suntan chart to make a ‘before’ and ‘after’ comparison.
26. Put together a postal course which teaches people how to cut silhouettes. The course might include instruction on how to cut all kinds of silhouettes such as landscapes, animals and people. These silhouettes can be framed or mounted to make attractive wall hangings.
27. Start a venture which organises courses about how to build your own house extension or loft conversion. Hold the courses during the weekends at the construction site of an extension or conversion. Or a bed and breakfast house could be hired out of season for a week long course.
28. Begin a craft business which makes either souvenir or normal tea cosies. Find suitable retail outlets to stock your cosies. You might, for example, make souvenir tea cosies for tea rooms and cafes to sell to their customers.
29. Earn money from selling cheap toys door to door. Visit neighbourhoods which have an above average population of children.
30. Learn how to make soft toys with the long term objective of being able to earn money from teaching others. Eventually, teach solo students, classes or use diagrams to teach by post. Also, bring out a postal course which teaches people how to design their own soft toys.
Although taking the right herbs can limit the cause of heartburn, some will need more than herbal remedies to control acid reflux, especially if a person leads a hectic lifestyle. This is because there are often many elements to a busy persons lifestyle that encourages acid reflux and heartburn.
What aspects can be the cause of heartburn in a hectic lifestyle?
Poor eating habits - There are different elements that contribute to poor eating habits. The first is eating a diet rich in foods that have a direct link to acid reflux (I.E. fatty foods, pre-packaged foods high in additives and preservatives, alcohol, coffee, tea. Etc.). Unfortunately, many of these foods make up the regular diet of those leading a hectic lifestyle.
To make matters worse, those that are controlled by their busy schedule tend to -
- Skip meals
- Eat at irregular times
- Ingest larger portions when they do eat
- Rush down their food
- Are physically active after eating
Each of these poor eating habits can be hard on your stomach. For instance, eating large portions creates a distended stomach that is full of food. This places pressure on the lower esophageal sphincter (LES). This pressure can result in stomach acid traveling back into the esophagus creating acid reflux, which can be the cause of heartburn.
Tobacco use - Tobacco can make acid reflux a more prominent problem. Nicotine is deposited in the back of the throat and can corrode the esophageal lining. Furthermore, tobacco also inhibits saliva production. Saliva is one of the body’s natural defenses against damage to the esophageal lining.
Poor sleeping habits - Lack of sleep can increase stress, and leads to the use of more caffeine stimulants such as tea, coffee and soda, which can increase the risk of acid reflux. In addition, eating before bed slows digestion. Other sleeping habits that can be the cause of heartburn includes sleeping without the proper elevation of your head (less than 6 inches) and lying on your back or stomach.
Stress - Although stress does not directly cause acid reflux it encourages the condition. The reason is because stress triggers bad habits such as eating fatty “comfort foods”, smoking, drinking alcohol, and eating late at night. Moreover, stress has been known to increase pain sensitivity.
Medications - There are a number of medications that can affect the LES and be the direct cause of heartburn. Some of these medications include -
- Tricyclic antidepressants - I.E. amitriptvlline
- NSAIDs (Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) - I.E. aspirin, ibuprofen
- Sedatives and muscle relaxants
To add insult to injury, not only can these drugs aggravate the esophageal lining, many people ingest them without drinking a full glass of water or lie down directly after. These actions can increase acid reflux risk. Additionally, repeatedly taking antacids to cure your heartburn can lead to negative side effects including headaches and stomach distress (I.E. nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and constipation).
Here are three ways you can effectively reduce the recurrence of acid reflux in your hectic lifestyle -
1. Control your diet and don’t rush through meals - Instead of skipping meals, eating out, or making pre-packaged dinners, consider eating small portions throughout the day. Make the time to eat breakfast, lunch and dinner and don’t rush through your food. Also, give yourself 20 minutes after you eat to digest. Drinking water can also help aid in digestion.
2. Give up bad habits - If you smoke, regularly drink alcohol, drink excessive amounts of carbonated beverages or those that contain caffeine, it’s time to cut back or avoid these practices completely.
3. Reduce stress - Engage in regular low impact exercise such as walking, swimming and bike riding. Make sure you get a goodnight sleep and take the time to enjoy activities you like.
Despite how hectic your life may be, it is imperative that you make an effort to reduce the elements in your lifestyle that can be the cause of heartburn.
5HTP (5-Hydroxytryptophan) is a naturally occurring amino acid found in the human body. 5HTP is converted by the body into serotonin. Serotonin is an extremely important brain chemical which has profound effects on mood, sleep, appetite, headaches, PMS and many other ailments.
When a person takes anti-depressant medications such as Prozac and Zoloft, their serotonin level is what gets boosted and this provides the relief they were seeking. 5HTP is a reliable and natural way to boost your serotonin level, so 5HTP is considered a good substitute for these artificial pharmaceuticals.
5HTP has been touted as a miracle supplement. Although the word “miracle” might be a stretch, there’s lots of good scientific evidence gathered over the course of forty years to indicate that 5HTP can be extremely helpful for some people. 5HTP has been shown to provide relief for the following disorders:
* Carbohydrate cravings
* Eating Disorders
* Sleep Apnea
* Tension Headaches
* Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder
* Impulse Control
* Pre Menstrual Syndrome
5HTP has also been shown to improve memory and enhance other cognitive functions. Interestingly, 5HTP has been postulated to reduce the risk of heart disease. Heart disease kills more Americans than anything else. Since depression, stress, obesity, anxiety and sleep disorders are all important risk factors for heart disease and 5HTP is a good treatment for all those risk factors, perhaps 5HTP can ward off heart disease entirely. This however, this is just a theory and has not been proven like many of the other benefits of 5HTP.
5HTP has been researched by scientists for the past forty years and proven safe for most people. 5HTP has some side effects, but most people tolerate it well. Everything has some side effects and 5HTP is no different. The most commonly side effects are nausea, and loose stools or constipation. Sometimes people will experience headaches or nightmares. These side effects seem to be common among many serotonin-enhancing substances and are often reported by people taking pharmaceutical anti-depressants too.
If you experience these side effects when taking 5HTP yet enjoy its benefits, a lower dose might be the answer. Another strategy is to take a break from taking 5HTP daily. Skip a few days and then resume 5HTP at a lower dose.
If you can not find pills in a low enough dose, it is permissible to break open the capsule and consume just a portion of the powder.
Bear in mind that a small group of people simply can not tolerate 5HTP and for them, the only answer is to stop taking it completely. Fortunately, this is rare, and only occurs in about 2-3% of people.
Although it’s relatively new to the American market, 5HTP has been available in Europe since the 1970’s. (5HTP has only been available over-the-counter in America since 1994.) This is mostly because American pharmaceutical companies have a stranglehold on the market not experienced in other countries. Since 5HTP is a naturally occurring substance, you can’t patent it and sell it for outrageous prices like you can with drugs like Prozac. For you, the customer, this makes 5HTP a bargain as well as a health aid.
5-HTP is an abbreviation for 5-Hydroxytryptophan. The last part of that word, tryptophan, is the name of an essential amino acid you may have heard of. It’s usually referred to as L-tryptophan and is often promoted as a natural way to increase serotonin and induce sleep or a sense of well-being. If you’ve ever been advised to eat turkey to fall asleep, it’s because turkey contains large quantities of tryptophan. But eating turkey is a much more convoluted and inexact way to increase serotonin levels than simply taking 5HTP supplments.
Several years ago, L-tryptophan supplements became quite popular as a natural treatment option to increase serotonin levels. However, L-tryptophan was taken off the market after a batch became contaminated during manufacturing in Japan. Many doctors felt yanking L-tryptophan off the market because of this one event was an overreaction, but nonetheless, the ban became law. In the United States and L-tryptophan has been unavailable since 1989.
With 5HTP, you don’t have to worry about any contamination because the manufacturing process is completely different. 5HTP is derived from seeds from the griffonia simplicifolia, a west African Medicinal Herb. The contamination which forced L-tryptophan off the market can not happen with 5HTP.
All in all, 5HTP is a good option for people who feel like they would benefit from higher levels of serotonin. It’s natural, relatively safe, and easily available at prices far less than pharmaceutical options for treating the same disorders.
Most people who are dedicated exercise enthusiasts have a very well thought-out exercise regimen. They know exactly when and how they will work out, what muscle groups they will target, the amount of strain they will place upon themselves, their fitness goals, their diet, and just about anything else pertaining to exercise.
That said, there are many problems associated with over-training. Signs of over-training are sub-standard results, possible injury, infection and colds, mood changes, changing sleep patterns and poor performance.
Today, many fitness experts posit that these problems are not a sign of over-exertion. Rather, they are a sign of under-recovery. By under-recovery, these researchers mean that devout exercisers are not allowing their body enough time to recuperate because they are not taking enough breaks between periods of strenuous exercise. These break periods are critical because they allow muscles to reinvigorate and regenerate -the tiny tears in the muscle need to repair and reform to allow increased strength and fitness..
These experts are recommending that serious athletes develop a recovery plan in addition to an exercise plan. This recovery plan is just as important as the exercise itself, and will greatly benefit and athlete’s health and well-being.
Electro Muscle stimulation, or EMS, is one of several effective methods to encourage muscle regeneration. EMS works by pulsing a low level of electricity through a targeted muscle or muscle group. Typical EMS systems cost several hundred dollars and consist of a main unit and many electrodes wired to it. To use an EMS, the electrodes are applied to the body in targeted areas.
EMS is often used as a strength builder. In addition to a normal workout it can be quite effective. To use EMS to encourage muscle regeneration, you should set the unit a low intensity and high frequency. Doing so will improve blood circulation to a specific area. Using EMS as an aid to regeneration is particularly successful because it enables you to target specific muscle groups. After you have exerted these groups, you can apply EMS and accelerate the regeneration and recuperation process.
However, EMS alone is not the best way to recuperate. Exercise experts highly recommend combining EMS recuperation treatments with one or more different recuperation methods. Here is a quick rundown of a few of those methods.
It is crucial that large amounts of water or electrolyte beverage be consumed during and after a strenuous workout. Glycogen is used at a higher rate when athletes don’t hydrate adequately. This results in increased fatigue and a slow recuperation process.
During and after a workout, blood flows to muscles at a much higher rate than normal. This increased bloodflow (up to 50%) will continue for as many as three hours after the workout is over. During this time, the body is primed to ingest nutrients. Both carbohydrates and proteins are necessary. These nutrients will help an athlete maintain his or her energy level and better regenerate muscle tissue. Waiting longer than three hours after a workout to eat can greatly increase recuperation time.
Stretching targeted muscle groups before and after a workout is essential for safety, performance and recuperation. Athletes are highly recommended to learn the best and most effective stretches for muscle groups they exercise in a given workout, and to rigorously use them.
Having more than 20 years as a copywriter under my belt, most of it freelance, I’ve made all the mistakes and suffered all the pains (and the ecstasies) of freelance life.
As an aid to my coaching students, I prepared this short report some time ago to show them that that I truly understand what they’re going through as they begin their life as a freelance professional serving corporate clients.
In my opinion, and drawing from my own painful experience, these are the five greatest obstacles to freelance success. I also share the methods, tools, and processes I used to “break on through” to the other side.
Obstacle #1 to Freelance Success: Lack Of Confidence
The #1 reason many soloprofessionals never “go to the next level” is, believe it or not, a simple lack of confidence. Because we usually work alone and don’t congregate at clubs, associations, or other venues like, say, realtors do, getting our egos stroked by others or comparing ourselves to our peers is problematic.
Furthermore, some kinds of freelance work is subjective, such as copywriting. And even if you know you’re a good or great writer, you’ll always come across someone else whose work seems better than yours. The truth is, some of the most successful copywriters aren’t the most talented writers at all. They’re experts at clarity, excellent at understanding the vagaries of business, and masterful at making clients happy. And this holds true for any kind of freelance-to-corporate relationship.
If you hold yourself back from success with the deeply held conviction that “success is for someone else,” there is good news. You can literally change that erroneous belief by changing your belief. If you’ve never investigated the psychology of self-discipline, you’ll be surprised at how easy it is to do.
During my Christmas vacation of 2005 I read an interview of Gary Bencivenga by Clayton Makepeace. Both held that their visualization and positive self-talk were essential to their successful campaigns. There are many tools you can use to break through your own self-limiting barriers. One that I loan out to my students and have used myself is “The Science of Self-Discipline” by Kerry L. Johnson. I purchased it online at Nightingale-Conant several years ago, and it’s probably still being sold there.
Obstacle #2 to Freelance Success: Lack Of Planning
It seems rudimentary, but most freelancers don’t have a plan for their business. They focus on the moment with no thought for tomorrow, except perhaps the vague wish to “do better next year.”
Yet it’s nearly impossible to make big changes or achieve great accomplishments without some kind of plan in place. Think about what it is that you most want to accomplish in your freelance business. Do you have a solid plan in place for achieving that goal?
If not, then it’s time to figure out where you want your business to be like in five years. Then figure out what part of that you’ll accomplish this year. Then determine what you have to do each month to get there. And what you have to do each week. Do you have a business schedule or calendar? Place the weekly tasks on the calendar.
I have a goal-achieving system I created for myself that has at its centerpiece a Daily Schedule. At the end of each day I create a work plan for the next day that moves me closer to my goal.
It’s not rocket science and there are no “secrets” to creating documents that help lead you to your goal. Simply take an hour to create a document that helps you organize your day, and make it a habit to complete your “daily schedule” the night before you need it. Make sure that your PRIMARY assigned tasks bring money directly in the door, (actual work for a client) or support it (marketing).
Obstacle #3 to Freelance Success: Ineffective Marketing
It’s interesting that copywriters market others for a living, but many are horrendous in their own marketing. I can only imagine how much harder it would be for a professional who offers a service unrelated to marketing.
However, no business can grow without marketing. Fortunately, there are many effective marketing tactics at the disposal of the solopreneur. It’s really just a matter of selecting the tactics that make you most comfortable, and then following through.
The most effective marketing tactic is the cold call simply because it’s faster and cheaper than other forms of marketing. The best way to do this is to create a phone script and make a few calls to companies in your niche market that are not on your prospect list, but who aren’t your most desirable prospects.
This allows you to refine and polish your script, and iron out any unforeseen problems. It also helps you get your confidence up, which is conveyed in your voice. When you get to where you’re “polished,” that’s when you cold call the companies you really want to work for.
If you place a call and you reach voice mail, be sure to leave a message. It’s a waste of time to make numerous calls to the same person, hoping to reach them directly. If your message is compelling (you can show them how you can solve a problem or achieve a goal), and your timing is right, you may get a return call.
What kind of results can you expect from a business-to-business phone campaign? Plan to gain one new client per 100 calls (one percent)IF you’re properly niched and you have a solid value proposition (e.g., “I can help you reduce employee turnover by 50% and here’s how I do it”).
Direct mailings with follow-up, got me from zero to making $5,000 USD per month in three months. It’s important to note, however, that I was not transitioning from one job to another; I spent full workdays five days a week conducting my mailing and calling campaigns, and I went to a niche market that would accept me readily (based upon my recent past0, direct marketing agencies.
What other marketing tools work well?
In my experience ezines, networking, and especially public speaking. However, you will have your marketing likes and dislikes, and your niche market will have its marketing conventions. For instance, I may dislike cold calls, so I don’t include it in my marketing mix. But my target market may spend a lot on trade shows. So I make a point to attend as many trade shows as I can, and maximize networking while I’m there.
Obstacle #4 to Freelance Success: Poor Time Management And Prioritizing
As a freelancer, you’ll face all kinds of challenges to your time. You’ll have the option to go to the gym during work hours if you wish. Or you might sleep in.
People will ask you for favors, like giving them a ride to the airport because they know you’re home. You might stop what you’re doing to throw a load of laundry in because it’s really stacking up.
As with any business, there’s endless work to do that you don’t get paid for, like marketing, buying business supplies, invoicing, catching up on reading, answering emails, and attending business events. If you let the fun and easy stuff take priority over your marketing, you’re sunk.
Realize that when you do work, you might actually “work for pay” only two or three days out of the week. The other days must be spent on the necessities of running a business.
Outsiders may try to steal your time, but you can be as much at fault by putting off tasks that are more distasteful, like, for instance, marketing.
No matter how much you love what it is you do it is work, and most of us have a natural tendency to push work out as far as possible, especially if it’s intimidating.
One of the ways I keep myself on track with priorities is with my Daily Schedule system. At the top of my Daily Schedule, which I fill in each night before a work day, I have a question I must answer. That question is, “How will I make money today?”
By answering that question I automatically bring my moneymaking project to the top of the list, ensuring proper prioritizing.
On the same Schedule I also list other projects that need to be done, in priority order. This helps me get the most important projects done first, and if something’s not done, it’s the least important task instead of the most important. I encourage you to create a similar time management/prioritizing tool for yourself.
Obstacle #5 to Copywriting Success: Going It Alone
When I first began my copywriting career, I looked everywhere I could for help. But the world of copywriting was isolated back then, and all I had for information and support were the few books I’d bought from Powell’s bookstore in Portland, Oregon. I limped along in a pitiful state for years.
Through perseverance and a variety of marketing methods I found myself in a mentoring situation with Bill Brown that I never sought, and didn’t even recognize the value of until it was ended.
I envy today’s new freelancers because the Internet has changed everything. Not only do we now have access to each other, but to peers who are willing to mentor.
It took me years to find my mentor in Bill Brown, who is now retired but far from forgotten in today’s international “direct marketing agency” circles.
For eight years I studied under Bill’s instruction. And when I launched off into my second freelance career, I had what I needed to succeed. Master copywriting training from Bill Brown, and an understanding of how marketing works from the agency I sweat blood for (Portland, Oregon’s Rosen/Brown Direct).
Today I have a coach, the wonderful Jim Slay of Palos Verdes, California, He helps me with my business expansion goals. And as a coach for all kinds of freelancers who seek corporate clients, I keep some time each day to coach others on proper marketing. It’s easy to land the high-quality, high-paying clients like Microsoft, Intuit, and IBM, if you know how.
Although experienced by more than 29.5 million Americans, most people still do not understand what migraines are all about. According to the National Headache Foundation (NHF), some of the most commonly-held myths about this debilitating disorder include:
Myth: Migraines are just bad headaches.
Fact: Migraines are a debilitating illness that affects 13% of the population. More than just a “bad headache,” migraine sufferers also experience a multitude of residual effects from that may include: severe nausea; pain and weakness in the head, face, neck, and shoulders; and sensitivity to light and sound, and even mood swings and depression. Attacks may last for hours, or days, and prevent the sufferer from going to work, attending classes, or basically completing normal daily tasks at home, work or school.
Myth: Caffeine cannot help relieve a migraine.
Fact: The effects of caffeine on migraines have been studied extensively, and the results are surprising: while caffeine is a trigger for some sufferers, it does seem to help alleviate symptoms in others. The best way to determine what caffeine will have on a specific sufferer, it is recommended that they keep a detailed food diary to determine its effect, either positive or negative.
Myth: Migraines are not triggered by stress,
Fact: Stress has been proven to trigger migraines in a vast majority of sufferers. Stress can be physical or emotional, and both can trigger migraines. It is believed that migraine sufferers have highly sensitized brains, which, during stressful periods, release certain chemicals that provoke the vascular change in the brain that causes the pain and other symptoms associated with migraines. Stress factors may include anxiety, worry, physical exertion, depression, excitement and mental fatigue.
Myth: Exercise Doesn’t Do Anything To Help Prevent Migraines
Fact: Many chronic migraine sufferers report that undergoing a regular exercise routine seems to help alleviate (or at least lesson) symptoms, while others noticed an increase in attacks when participating in sports or other physical exertion. If exercise or physical strain induce a headache, it is important to check with your healthcare provider to determine what other activities you can enjoy in order to remain fit and healthy.
Myth: Dietary Supplements Don’t Help in Treating Migraines
Fact: There are several vitamins that have been proven to help prevent and treat migraine headaches. They include:
Magnesium - which helps relax blood vessels, and decrease the severity and occurrence of migraines.
Riboflavin (Vitamin B2) - Assists nerve cells in producing higher levels of ATP, which has been linked to reversing a cells “energy crisis” during an attack.
Myth: Sleep does not affect migraines
Fact: A lack of sleep has been proven to cause the onset of migraine symptoms. The best remedy: go to sleep at the same time every night, also waking at the same time every day, in order to maintain a natural circadian rhythm in the body.
Myth: Migraine headaches are not hereditary
Fact: Unfortunately, the odds are if someone in your family suffers with a migraine disorder, so will you. The child of a migraine sufferer has a 50% chance of having them, and if both parents suffer with migraines, their children have a 75% chance of the same. Even distant relatives who experience migraines may increase a person’s chance of being affected. Almost 20 percent of all sufferers report an aunt, uncle, cousin , or other relative who also experience migraine symptoms on a regular basis.
Suffering from migraine headaches can be difficult to deal with, but learning more about what causes them, and ways to both prevent and treat them can aid a patient in dealing with their physical and emotional effects.
Irritable bowel syndrome is a painful and frustrating disorder of the intestines that is very difficult to treat. It causes cramps, gassiness, bloating, and alterations in bowel habits and is called a functional disorder because there is no visible sign of the disease when the colon is examined. Although irritable bowel syndrome causes a great amount of pain and distress, there is not any damage actually occurring in the intestines. The symptoms range from mild to severe and depend upon the person. Some people may experience diarrhea, while others may have constipation, and still others may experience both. This disorder is caused by hyperactivity of the intestine, with individuals having irritable bowel syndrome to be more reactive to stressors and diet than usual. Researchers also believe that irritable bowel syndrome can also be caused by emotional problems or significant amounts of stress. Although everyone experiences queasiness as a response to everyday stress or certain foods, those with irritable bowel syndrome have and exaggerated response.
Irritable bowel syndrome is very common, being one of the most frequent problems seen by family physicians. Because so many people suffer from irritable bowel syndrome, the disorder results in significant socioeconomic costs along with a reduction in quality of life for many individuals. A person suffering from irritable bowel syndrome will have abdominal cramps and pain, sometimes severe and disabling. The person’s bowel movements will be irregular and range between diarrhea and constipation. Other symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome include abdominal bloating, passing of gas, nausea, lack of appetite, heartburn, belching, disrupted sleep, fatigue, anxiousness, and depression. A person diagnosed with irritable bowel syndrome will have the continued presence of the above symptoms for at least three months and all other intestinal conditions including Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, inflammatory bowel disease, colon cancer, inflammatory conditions of the stomach or pancreas, ulcers, infectious disease, or gastroesophogeal reflux disease will have been ruled out.
There have been a few natural alternatives to the over-the-counter drugs that are prescribed by doctors. These include enteric-coated peppermint oil and clown’s mustard, which both have significant amounts of scientific research behind them and have been demonstrated to benefit individuals with irritable bowel syndrome. Clown’s mustard, also called wild candytuft or bitter candytuft, is a white-flowering plant from Spain. However, it is also grown in Britain, France, and the United States. Its key components are glycosides and flavonoids that have specific actions on the gastrointestinal tract. There has been a great deal of impressive research on clown’s mustard, in conjunction with other herbs, which has proven great success on those suffering from irritable bowel syndrome and other gastrointestinal diseases. Studies have proven that clown’s mustard can reduce symptoms of abdominal pain and diarrhea. Clown’s mustard can also help those who suffer from symptoms similar to irritable bowel syndrome as a result of long time medications for cardiovascular diseases, arthritis, and autoimmune diseases that have caused erosion of the stomach lining and ulcers. Reglan, which is often prescribed by physicians to reduce the symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome, is not only an effective medication, but it also has numerous side effects. These side effects include fatigue, anxiety, agitation, jitteriness, insomnia, yellowing of the skin or eyes, changes in vision, hallucinations, and seizures. Because of its serious side effects Reglan can not be taken for a period longer than twelve weeks. When comparing Reglan to clown’s mustard, both give the same improvement to symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome. However, side effects occur much more frequently with those that take Reglan verses those that take Clown’s mustard and Clown’s mustard has no limit on the duration of use.
Peppermint oil has also been shown to relax the intestinal muscle. People suffering from irritable bowel syndrome in Great Britain are currently being prescribed peppermint oil by physicians, where it has been used as a digestive aid to soothe upset stomach for many generations. Recent research has proven that peppermint oil shows significant effects on the symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome. These good results caused additional studies of peppermint oil on irritable bowel syndrome. Because straight peppermint oil is rapidly absorbed into the bloodstream from the stomach, studies have concluded that enteric-coated capsules of peppermint oil deliver the benefit directly to the intestines, rather than to the stomach. An enteric-coated peppermint capsule that contains rosemary and thyme is extremely effective in the treatment of irritable bowel syndrome because all three oils are classified as volatile oils, which are derivatives of plants that impart taste and aroma, The combination of these three oils can provide a great deal of relief to irritable bowel syndrome related pain.
Both clown’s mustard and enteric-coated peppermint oil can be taken together, but depending on the symptoms, people with irritable bowel syndrome may want to start with one supplement and then add the other one if it is needed. Both of these formulas are available at health food stores, natural product supermarkets, pharmacies, and from health professionals. Most sales personnel and health professionals that are knowledgeable about medications can direct consumers to the most effective products. When purchasing peppermint oil, be sure it is enteric coated, so that the oil is prevented from being absorbed in the stomach. The enteric coating on the capsule will deliver the peppermint oil directly through the stomach to the small intestine and eventually to the colon, where it can give the maximum benefits. To treat an irritable colon, 0.6 ml per day of enteric-coated peppermint oil is recommended by the German Commission E. This product can also be purchased in capsules. Sometimes, the enteric-coated peppermint oil can cause a burning sensation in the rectum when moving bowels. If this occurs, a simple reduction in the dosage will cure this. Those individuals who must refrain from alcohol should not take clown’s mustard in an herbal tincture, which could possibly contain alcohol.
Along with the above natural alternatives, irritable bowel syndrome patients have some other options to help themselves feel better. Because food allergies or food intolerances may be associated with irritable bowel syndrome, determining which foods cause episodes of irritable bowel syndrome and eliminating them from your diet can be very helpful. Reducing saturated fat, limiting calories, and increasing fiber can also be helpful in preventing symptoms that occur after a meal. Since stress also stimulates the intestinal hyperactivity, relaxation training, listening to therapeutic audiotapes, hypnosis, counseling, or biofeedback may help to reduce some of the irritable bowel syndrome symptoms. Peppermint Oil and other natural supplements are available at your friendly internet vitamin store.
Exercise is important for every one of all ages and it is just as important to seniors as it is for everyone else. Of course exercise helps regulate body functions and that includes sleep, for seniors in particular exercise at the appropriate times of day is a wonderful and natural aid for helping with insomnia. When the body ages sleep patterns change and what many people tend to think of as insomnia is actually just a natural change in the body.
The definition of insomnia is the inability to fall asleep or the lack of being able to stay asleep, it also means the failure of getting a restful and fulfilling sleep that refreshes the mind and body, even despite the length of time slept. There are numerous causes for insomnia. Many of the most predominant reasons being physical ailments, emotional distress or stress. A large amount of alcohol consumed late in the day is also a cause of insomnia. Many studies have also found that sometimes it is simply not being fatigued that keeps you up in the night, your body hasn’t used up all of its energy for the day. Most often it is due to stress and keeping troubling thoughts or issues in your mind when trying to sleep and many times it can lead to awakening early due to your anxiety and nervousness. If your body isn’t tired and your mind is racing through the difficulties in your life you are a very good candidate for insomnia.
Most people have insomnia at some point in their life but what many people think is insomnia is not always the case. For instance, seniors feel they are suffering from insomnia but it is just a natural part of aging. Seniors sleep less and the periods of deep sleep, or REM, grow shorter and they will awaken more often during the night. Many seniors are usually caught napping during the day and that is very normal and can be very refreshing and needed if they are getting a recuperative sleep at night.
Most people and seniors included look for help with their sleeping disorders in medications even when there is a completely natural solution close at hand. As we all know every medication has side effects and should not be relied upon for long lengths of time. Sleep aids also cost money that can be saved for more needed items. In short, the best solution for seniors is a natural sleep remedy.
The benefits of exercise are numerous, not just for keeping up physical strength and to look and feel better, but also as a natural sleep aid. By keeping your body physically moving with exercise, will in a way, force your body to react with a good rest, your body’s natural cure for fatigue will kick in and therefore provide you with much needed rest. The only thing to keep in mind is that exercise too late in the day or evening can actually keep you awake because your heart rate will still be up when it’s time for bed. So make sure you do your exercising in the day.
The endorphins that are produced naturally when we exercise also play a critical role in helping you to sleep. This helps you have a more relaxed state of mind and reduces anxieties. Remember stress and emotional problems are two of the biggest factors in causing insomnia. But proper, regular exercise will improve your state of mind as well as the body. These endorphins produce a feeling of well being which will make falling asleep much simpler and keep you longer in a state of deep sleep, so you will know longer wake up many times during the night.
Keeping schedules of exercise and your bedtime are also major contributors to help against the fight against insomnia. By exercising at the same times every day and going to sleep at the same times every night, your body will become accustomed to keeping this schedule. Seniors may also find it beneficial to make their bedtime later and their awakening earlier, this will help in the quality of sleep that they receive at night. Quality is much more important than quantity.
Seniors will find that they will have much less need for sleep during the day if they keep on a regular exercise schedule and get that nice, restful sleep at night.
Thousands of years ago, ancestors of the Polynesian people migrated from the South East Asia, to the Pacific islands which include Hawaii and the Tahiti island. They brought with them the most essential items which were necessary for their new civilization, among them, a plant which they considered sacred because of its healing power, the plant is now called Morinda Citrifolia or Noni. It is South East Asia where Noni originates but its scientific discovery was pioneered in Hawaii, USA.
The Noni plant grows only in tropical climate and reaches 8m in height. Its large elliptical to ovate form leaves are oppositely arranged. The plant has small white tubular flower grown on the fruit. The fruits are large, freshy and ovoid. The fruits mature from small dark green to 12 cm creamy white-yellow. It has lumpy surface covered by ploygonal-shaped sections. The seeds are triangular shaped and reddish brown, have an air-sac attached at one end. The fruit is not quite palatable because of its bad taste and smell. Juice extraction is difficult due to large amount of foam and the multiple seeds in the fruits. The challenge is to extract Noni juice and process it in a natural way to remove it’s pungent smell and taste, and yet preserving its natural state without destroying its highly sensitive medicinal compounds. This challenge was undertaken by Sari Noni® two years ago and today we present to you our fruit of success.
Noni Medicinal Value
Medicinal value are found thorough the plant. Its leaves, flowers, roots, bark and stalks were traditionally used to treat various a wide range of disease, but it is the fruit which stores the essence of the plant. Noni fruit contains 140 plus neutracentical coumpounds and other medicinal active constituents including enzymes, alkaloid, anthraquinones, damnacanthal, phytonutrients, minerals and vitamins are identified so far in the juice of Noni fruit.
LIST OF MEDICINAL ACTIVE COMPOUNDS FOUND IN NONI JUICE: acetic acid, acubin, alazarin, alkaloids (xeronine, proxeronine), anthraquinones, asperuloside, beta-sitosterol, butanoic acid, benzoic acid, benzyl alcohol, 1-butanol, calcium, caproic acid, caprylic acid, damnacanthal, decanoic acid, (E)-6-dodeceno-gamma-lactone, (Z,Z,Z)-8,11,14-eicosatrienoic acid, elaidic acid, ethyl decanoate, ethyl hexanoic acid, 2-heptanone, hexanal, hexanamide, hexanedioic acid, hexanoic acid, 1-hexanol, 3-hydroxy-2-butanone, iron, lauric acid, l-asperuloside, limonene, linoleic acid, morindone, morindine, 2-methylbutanoic acid, 3-methyl-2-buten-1-ol,3-methyl-3-buten-1-ol, methyl decanoate, methyl elaidate, methyl hexanoate, methyl 3-methylthio-propanoate, methyl octanoate, methyl oleate, methyl palmitate, 2-methylpropanoic acid, 3-methylthiopropanoic acid, minerals, myristic acid, nonanoic acid, octanoic acid, oleic acid, palmitic acid, polysaccharide, phytonutrients, potassium, serotonin, scopoletin, selenium, terpene compounds, trace elements, undecanoic acid, (Z,Z)-2, 5-undecadien-1-ol, vitamins (vitamin A, C, beta-carotene, niacin, riboflavin, thiamine), vomifol. While some of the constituents are still little known to Scientists, modern medicine has managed to identify and explain the following compounds which are responsible for the act of miracle healings:
Acubin, Alazarin & Anthraquinone: Natural antibacterial agents which control infectious bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia Coli and Salmonella. All of these compounds provide effective treatment of skin infections, colds, fevers and other bacterial poisoning problems.
Beta-sitosterol: Lowers cholesterol levels and helps treat certain benign prostate tumors - H.K. Moorthy (1970) and V.U. Ahmad (1980).
Caprylic & Caproic Acids: Short-chain fatty acids that promote more complete digestion and inhibit the growth of fungi and yeast in the digestive tract.
Damnacanthal: Anticancer agent more effective than 500 other botanical isolates tested in converting cancerous cells back into normal cells (Hiramatsu, T., Imoto, M., Umezawa,K.:” Induction of Normal Phenotypes in RAS-transformed Cells by Damnachanthal from Morindal Citrifolia” Cancer Letter, 73 (1993) 161-166). It significantly inhibits the growth of K-ras-NRK pre-cancerous cells by stimulating T-cells in the immune system. It helps to enable the immunity system to function more effectively by increasing the intestinal walls’ ability to better absorb various nutrients, especially amino acids.
Phytonutrients: Antioxidant and detoxifying agent. It nourishes the body’s cells tissues and organs, and also fight free-radical damage caused by aging process, harmful chemical and pollutions.
Polysaccharide: Stimulates the activity of macrophages and T-lymphocytes.
Scopoletin: Scopoletin dilates blood vessels and normalizes blood pressure. It does not however reduce normal blood pressure to abnormally low levels because of the synergistic effects of other neutraceuticals in the Noni juice.
Selenium & Vitamin C: Combined powerful body detoxifying agent and natural antioxidant to help rid the body of toxins.
Serotonin: Also known as the mood molecule because it modulates raw information and gives it its emotional tone. Low serotonin are linked to depression, suicidal tendencies, anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive behavior, over-eating, bulimia, schizophrenia, sleep problems, migraine headaches, autism, drug and alcohol addictions, Alzheimer’s disease and patterns of violent behavior. A highly important chemical to the human body identified in the central nervous system as neurotransmitter and precursor to hormone melatonin, our biological rhythms regulator. Serotonin regulates our mood and also plays a significant role in the treatment of various disorders, particularly those of central nervous system such as stroke, obesity, pain, hypertension, cardiovascular disorders, muscle contraction, nausea, endocrine regulation, temperature regulation, appetite control and sexual behavior. Noni juice is the only safe way to increase serotonin level without any side-effect as nature use precise proportions and relationship to combine vitamins, minerals, and other phytochemical co-factors to enhance the benefits of each individual component. The body takes what it needs from nutrients and eliminates what it does not need.
Terpene: Aid in body organic synthesis and cell rejuvenation.
The most talked-about compounds Proxeronine: Precursor of Xeronine. Noni fruit contains a very high concentration of proxeronine which are converted into xeronine when taken into the body. Proxeronine assists in enlarging the membrane pores of the cells which allows for larger chains of peptides (amino acids or proteins) to be admitted into the cell, as a result we get more and better absorption of nutrients. When applied to the skin, it stimulates Xeronine syntheses, which in turn, enhances the healing process and removes dead tissue quickly and safely. This explains why Noni is used in ancients times to treat burns, abrasions, cuts, wounds, and bruising. Our skin, after the liver, store the greatest amount of proxeronine.
Xeronine: Small alkaloid found in virtually all healthy cells of plants, animals and microorganisms. Without xeronine, all life would cease.
Dr. Heinicke stated: “Xeronine is so basic to the functioning of protein, we would die without it. Its absence can cause many kinds of illness.” Alkaloids are organic nitrogenous compounds that are so important that even negligible amounts have strong physiological effects in our bodies. Xeronine alkaloid has never before been discovered because the body uses it immediately after producing it. The amount of free Xeronine left in the blood is so minute that normal chemcial analytical tools are unable to detect.
Proteins need to combine with Xeronine before it can work! Protein provides most of the structure of our body right down to the cellular level. It enable nutrients to pass through cell membranes, and are also found in hormones such as insulin which are essential to our body. Proteins also act as antibodies for the immune system and also enzymes for metabolic function and antibodies that fight infection. Proteins builds new tissue, repairs damaged tissue, and transports oxygen and nutrients into the blood.
Xeronine increases the ability of cells within the body to abosorb and utilize nutrients such as amino acids, vitamins, and minerals. It enable larger molecules of digested nutrients to pass through cell membranes, thereby improving digestion and weight problems.
The body also needs Xeronine to activate certain inactive enzymes. Xeronine regulates and provides structure to proteins, a essential process to life. The lack of Xeronine in the body can pose serious health problem.
“Many of us are severely Xeronine deficient. Nutrient-depleted soils, environmental pollution, the stress of everyday life, ageing, diseases and certain food additives all work together to deplete our xeronine. Noni juice supplies the necessary nutrients so that our bodies can make more xeronine.” Stephen M. Hall (quoted from the foreword to ‘53 Ways to Use Noni’, Isabelle Navarre-Brown, 1998). Xeronine also convert specific brain proteins into active receptor sites for endorphins, our well-being hormones. It opens brain receptor sites and allows the brain to receive more of the hormone endorphin which brings the feeling of well being.
Xeronine has the ability to wean out other addictive alkaloid such as nicotine, caffeine and morphine. Hence Noni helps to cure all kinds of addiction, such as alcohol, cigarettes and drugs.
In ancient times Noni is used to draw poisons from the body. Dr. Heinicke conducted a clinical study with tetrodotoxin poison from puffer fish, the most lethal known to man, it blocks nerve conduction, and makes the dying process horrible. He injected ten mice with tetrodotoxin poison and they all died dramatically. He injected a control group with Xeronine and not only did they survive the lethal poison, they flourished. Our body is constantly assaulted by countless toxic substances found in the air we breathe, the water we drink, the food we eat.
In short, many diseases are directly or indirectly caused by the lack of a single important substance in the body. By solving the problem of deficiency, many diseases can be cured. It is not surprising that Noni has the ability to treat a wide range of illness, if we know exact why and how. It also renders the opinion of many critics invalid. If theoretical justification is not enough, then empirical evidence should suffice. We did not start the Noni euphoria, it begun 3000 years ago, we merely rediscover it.
Illness and diseases Noni known to have cured: Addictions, Aging, AIDS, Allergies, Asthma, Atherosclerosis, Blood Vessel, Broken Bones, Burns, Bruises, Cancers, Catarats, Cell Regeneration, Chronic Back Pain, Chronic Fatigue, Colitis, Cuts, Depression, Detoxification, Diabetes, Digestive Problems, Energy Boost, Fibromyalgia, Headache & Migraine, Heart Disease, Stroke, High Blood Pressure, High Cholesterol, Immunity-T Cell Count, Increase Energy, Infectious Diseases, Inflammation, Insomnia, Intestinal Parasites, Kidney Health, Lupus, Menstrual cramps, Multiple Slerosis, Weight Problem-Over/Under Weight, Osteoarthritis, Pain, Psoriasis, Crohn’s Disease, Respiratory Aliments, Senility, Sexual Vitality, Sinus, Skin Problems-Eczema, acnes etc - Tumor……(many other conditions may not be listed here).

Toxics put danger in human health. Chemicals are among in the field of toxics that are found everywhere. Personal cosmetics, cleansing agents, paints, fuels and pollutions are some of the common sources of toxins. These toxins are deadly and may harm our body that can lead into cancer. Water, bacteria and viruses are the burdens of external human body. The elements of excessive fats and stress makes our body internally loss of the vitamins and minerals due to the food we eat. Unconsciously, we do not know when and where we absorb such body toxins and thus it can be hard to detox your body at times.
Body aches, skin problems and difficulty in digestion are the effects of too much toxins in the body. In order to release such substance, the body needs to detoxify. Detoxification is the process of removing or eliminating harmful body compounds and then ingestion of good nutrients as nourishment.
Waiora Zeolite is a natural volcanic mineral that can help complete bdoy detox process in the human body. Products with zeolite content is a new science breakthrough to trap heavy metals and other toxic chemicals that absorbed by the body.
Understanding the Value of Detoxification:
? It rest the organ
? Energize the liver to reduce toxins out of the body
? Refresh the intestine, kidney and skin
? Good flow of the blood in nerves and in heart
? Re-gain the body with good nutrients
? Help in the build up of body cell for much younger look.
Natural Techniques of Detoxification:
1. Decrease interest in toxin load such as drinking alcohol content products, coffee, cigarettes, refined sugars, saturated fats and body fatigue.
2. Substitute your personal cosmetics and other house hold chemical based agents product into natural and organics as an alternative.
3. Avoid too much stress because it can trigger the hormones in your body system. Large amount of stress in the body can lower down your adrenaline and can cause toxins in the body.
4. Eat plenty of foods rich in fiber and Vitamin C. Fiber rich foods help eliminate toxins in the body. While, foods rich in vitamin C help in producing natural glutathione in liver that will get rid away toxins.
5. Drink tea and milk more often. These can aid in the cleansing and protection of internal body parts. Drink 8 ? 10 glasses of water a day or at least 2 quarts.
6. Allow oxygen to circulate inside your body by breathing deeply to generate natural air in the body system. Emphasize positive feelings to take out stress.
7. Have a hot water therapy by taking a bath with hot water and then after wards, shower with warm water to close the open pores.
8. Retain enough rest. Sleep 8 hours a day at night and wake up early. Avoid staying late during night time because this can damage good cells in the body.
9. Have an intake of liquid cellular zeolite by Waoira, a new product of modern science that can fight the complete human body toxins such as bad bacteria, viruses, worms, products with chemicals and other bad elements.
10. Exercise daily to maintain sexy and gorgeous body all the time.
