no sleep, when to see a doctor?

by Chris ·

So I always have sleep problems…I have been diagnosed with clinical insomnia, have taken many different sleep aids (natural and prescription) and have seen off and on temporary relief. I generally, without the aid of medication, get between 3 and 5 hours of sleep per night. It is not uncommon to go a night or two with less than two hours though. In the past four nights I have slept at most, a total of 2 hours (accumulated by dozing off and immediately waking back up). I was sick all weekend with a bad coldish thing, and now am feeling slightly better on those symptoms, but am feeling very shaky, weak, emotional, nausious…etc. This happened once in highschool, and lasted about a week…I can’t do that again–I have two important tests as this is my last week of summer school. Do I need to go to the doctor? At what point will serious effects begin to occur? I don’t know what to do, I just feel like crying! Any advice?
i strongly suggest valerian root. it’s great at relieving stress and tension! you can get it over the counter and it’s a great sleep aid! if you have one of those "racing minds" or "i can’t turn my head off no matter how tired i am" then this will definitely help. you can find at your local grocery store in the pharmacy or herbal remedy section. start off taking 500-1000mgs, 30-45 minutes before you go to bed. now you can get this stuff in capsule form and it’s 100% safe (my whole family has been taking it for years and our family doctor actually recommended it) however the only downside is that the more potent the brand your taking the stronger the smell. and this stuff smells AWFUL! but it’s worth it. within 5-7 days you should notice a definite change in your sleep. WARNING! i strongly do not suggest that you take Tylenol PM and booze, in any form or combination. the main ingredient in Tylenol PM and Advil pm, or benadryl for that matter is diphenhydramine. here’s what happens when you take it: You can walk into a drugstore and choose from an array of sleep aids, offered without prescription. The main ingredient of over-the-counter sleeping pills is an antihistamine. Antihistamines are generally taken for allergies, but also make you feel very sleepy. Common over-the-counter sleep medications are Sleep-Eze, Sominex, Nytol, and Unison; they contain antihistamines such as: diphenhydramine hydrochloride, diphenhydramine citrate, or doxylamine succinate. In general, over-the-counter sleep medications are not a good choice because they: Are not intended for long-term use. Interfere with mental alertness during the day, so you should avoid driving and other similar tasks. You may also be at risk for falling asleep Reduce the quality of your sleep by reducing time you spend in deep sleep. Use over-the-counter sleep medications only for transient or short-term insomnia and in conjunction with changes to your sleeping habits. Be sure to pay attention to your body’s physical response to these sleep medications. also look at the links on the website i’ve listed they have some good remedies! I hope this helps!

well then go to bed early, and close your eyes. do this on the weekends-like saturday.. so you dont have to work the next day… go to bed and rest starting at 10pm…make sure from 8-10pm you dont have anything like tv—so just have a book… when 10 comes go to bed and shut all channels of lights and sounds..see what happens…

First and foremost… Go to the doctor!. Lack of sleep causes many other problems. You may need to change your sleep patterns and try some new things. Since you are tired, cranky and emotional then its time to make some changes. Turn off the TV, nature sounds for white noise, room darkening shades, increase the exercise you get, avoid spicy foods at night, limit the amount of fluids you take in a night. My wife swears by Sleepytime tea when she can't sleep. Cup of tea with small amount of honey. Best wishes and sweet dreams.

Insomnia isn't all the time a physical condition. It actually is a symptom of depression or stress. If nothing is bothering you emotionally and psychologically, maybe you just need to work out, go to the gym, or jog. Then change your diet, less caffeine (soda and coffee). Take multivitamins and if it still continues, I would suggest you see a doctor who might be able to prescribe a mild sedative to help you sleep. If you can drink a shot of vodka or brandy after a meal, or even drink wine with your meal, that can also help you unwind and relax.

You really need to get a hold of this it can lead to sickness…you need your sleep. You need to correct your sleep pattern so you can get back on track:
    1. No caffeine after 4ish
    2. Get up at the same time every morning (even weekends) whether you want to or not.
    3. NOOOO Naps. (HUGE)
    4. No watching TV in your bed…bed is for sleep.
    5. Dark room…pull the shades.
    6. No noise…try earplugs-very peacefull.
    7. Also sugar & alcohol you need to limit or take earlier.

I had some sleep issues and I got sick. It ended up I got mono because of it and apparently couldn't get rid of it. These are all things that helped Also, my Dr. perscribed Temazepam. From what I understand it is an anti-anxiety sleep aid. At first I took 30 mg then after the mono was gone I now take 15. I requested a smaller dose so I don't get addicted to the feeling of going to sleep that easy. Also I don't take it every night. Even now if I nap …forget it, there's no sleep for me. Likewise, if I don't use earplugs…agghhh Good luck. I was the happiest person in the world after I went to the Dr.!
