Looking for natural sleep aid remedies?
I don’t want to take pills but I need something to help me sleep more than a few hours. Are there any natural remedies anyone can recommend? I’ve tried warm milk, hot chocolate etc. So far no good.
Thank you in advance if you can help.
if go to a natural/homeopathy store ask for Valerian root or Melatonin.
Both are natural sleep aids to be taken roughly 30 minutes before plan to sleep. As sparker said drink as a tea.
Kava is also meant to be good as a sleeping aid.
Another method is to hold your breath and then slowly exhale, this increases the amount of carbon dioxide in the body which is a natural anesthesia.
Then ok course the old things of counting sheep, which is supposed to help as focuses brain on one thing and allows other areas to go to sleep.
Other than that cut our caffeine, exercises about an hour before sleep.
Hope something helps

Valerian root can be drunk as a tea (most wholefood shops will sell the teabags). It tastes horrible however.
Chamomile is a better alternative. Again drink it as tea.

its not really a remedy butthings i find help when i cant get to sleep
putting classical music on in the background really quietly
putting pillow at the other end of the bed and sleeping the different way round to usual, so ‘upside down-ish’

The roots of lettuces contain laudanum, which helps you sleep.
Even the bottom of the lettuces you buy at the supermarket contain some.

First, make sure that during the day you consume no alcohol or caffeine. Then in the evenings, drink 2-3 cups of chamomile tea with several drops of valerian tincture.

Valerian root helps. You can get it in pill form. Also Lavender oil on your pillow works well too.

Hi, you’re back. How’s your mood?
Will this help?

If you’re not in such mood, then perhaps just shower and go to bed, relax.
Or stare at the screen long enough will eventually make you tire enough.

Couple of options
Nytol is very good, but it leaves you feeling totally f*cked the next day.
A few years ago, I got something from a Chinese herbalist on the high street. That worked, but it gave me really freaky dreams so had to give up
These days, I have a hot toddy (thats the drink, not the rent boy), a hot bath, watch The Tudors on DVD, then get into bed with clean sheets and day dream that Jonathan Rhys Meyers has come round for dinner. W*nk myself stupid and then drift off. Yes I know that sounds a bit bizarre or extreme, but it actually works for me.
More importantly though is to figure out why you aren’t sleeping and do something about it. Don’t mask the problem, get to the root cause.

You could drink one of the natural bedtime tea mixes out there or Chamomile tea.
You could also put two drops of Lavender essential oil on your pillow at night or use an aromatherapy vaporizer (put a couple of drops of lavender in about a teaspoon of water) or you could take a bath with 3-4 drops of lavender in it.
Another option with lavender is making a dream pillow which is filled with the herb. When the pillow is older you can replace it or use essential oils on the pillow. Makes your bedroom smell nice too. Lavender helps with relaxation as well as strengthening your immune system.
Please note to use 100% essential oils (you can get them from your health food shop) and don’t use more than the drops specified as essential oils are very powerful and can have adverse effects from using too much. Not many people are allergic to lavender but if you have an allergic reaction seek medical attention.
One of the best tips I ever got was from a doctor who suggested a breathing technique. Despite being skeptical, I tried this technique and it really worked. It actually helped me overcome the insomnia I had been prone too for most of my life.
The technique uses breathing to focus your mind. Breathe in through your LEFT nostril … breathe out through your RIGHT nostril. Every time you notice your mind has strayed, return its focus to breathe in through your left nostril … out through your right. Of course you are not breathing that way but if you can actually focus on your breathing for a few minutes, next thing you know is you’ll be waking up in the morning or if you wake up during the night you can use it to get back to sleep.
I hope this helps.
